Your wedding invitation wording can be as formal of as personal as your wish. The wording on your wedding invitation will reflect the style and mood of your up and coming wedding as much the design of your wedding invitation.
Step 1.
The first thing to consider is who your wedding invitation will be addressed from i.e. the bride and groom or the parents of the bride and groom. Traditionally wedding invitation wording from the parents will be more formal than wedding invitation wording from the bride and groom. See our wedding invitation wording guide for standard wording ideas.
Step 2.
Decide the mood of the wedding and try and portray this with your wedding invitation wording. If you are having a beach wedding you will probably choose very casual wording on your wedding invitation. A black tie wedding would therefore be better suited to very formal wedding invitations wording.
Step 3.
Make sure you wedding invitations wording suits you as a couple and represents your personality. You may wish to include a poem or verse in your wedding invitation about your partner, marriage or wedding day. Use our wedding invitations wording as a template then add your personal touch.
Step 4.
Consider if there are any instructions you would like to give your wedding guests in relation to the giving of gifts. You may prefer to receive money rather than presents for your wedding. Many couples find it difficult to put this into words and not feel they are in breach of wedding etiquette. We offer a wishing well wording idea guide to make it easy.
Step 5.
Make sure the RSVP date is realistic. You need to give your wedding guests enough time to check their calendar make the necessary arrangements especially those who are traveling. You may even consider a save the date for these guests. Also don't forget your will need to make sure you receive your RSVP's in plenty of time to finalize your wedding arrangements.
All wedding invitations should come from the home of the bride, even those that are for the personal friends of her husband even if they are unknown to the bride. They should be mailed about six weeks before the day set for the wedding. Out of town guests should be sent a "Save the Date" card, preferably with hotel suggestions, in time for them to make travel accommodations (usually 8-12 weeks in advance).
